North Carolina Mountain Cabin Rental
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the heart of Appalachia is Husk Homestead...
a 19th-century antique log cabin tastefully restored with modern conveniences, located in Lansing, North Carolina just a short walk from town. From the hand-hewn logs to the antique claw-foot tub, and the updated kitchen to the satellite TV, you can get away, but stay in touch, all in total comfort.
Husk Homestead was built in the hills of northern Ashe County, North Carolina, where Civil War history, beautiful country and southern hospitality abound. The cabin was originally located in the Husk-Nella community along the former Virginia Creeper Railroad line, just a short distance from its current location, above Big Horse Creek. In the 1970s, the house was moved log by log to where it now stands in Lansing.
The cabin retains its own charm, most evident in the living room where you'll find a stone hearth made from the cabin's original chimney. A wood stove has been added for that authentic warmth on cool mountain evenings and the roof is red tin, which plays its own song in wet weather.
Take in the lovely mountain views while relaxing on the wraparound porch in the swing, hammock, or one of the rocking chairs. You may be lucky enough to spot house wrens, deer, hummingbirds or rabbits. Your own four-legged friends are welcome and we even have a fenced in yard for them to play. If you're in the mood to cook inside, you'll find everything you need in our modern kitchen, including a dishwasher, microwave, cookware, dishes and utensils. Outside, you can try your hand at the gas grill, perfect for cooking all those fish you caught in the stream that runs through Lansing, or in the South Fork of the New River. While experiencing the beauty of nature, you will also find comfort and relaxation inside the cabin which consists of:
- Two bedrooms and living room provide sleeping for up to 6 guests
- A queen bed in the Horse Room,
- A full bed in the Tree Room, and
- A futon in the living room, which also features a TV and a stereo with a CD player
- We provide linens and towels
- Washer and dryer
- Restored antique claw-foot tub, which also has a shower attachment
When you really need some quiet time to yourself, the third floor finished attic serves as a getaway for games and puzzles or artistic pursuits. Other guests have enjoyed this space for writing, painting or drawing.
